Plan a double feature with your family. Typically just one movie at a time is played, so go back to the old days and plan a double feature with your family. You can pick both the movies, give people options before taking a vote, draw two movie names out of a hat or choose movies with a unifying theme -- like a certain actor. Print up a flier that tells what each movie is about so the family can get excited about the new double feature family night.
Drive-In

Organize a drive-in type movie with your family. Drive-ins are hard to find, so make your own, instead. Hang a white sheet over the garage and rent a projector if you don't have one. Park your car in front of the garage and place the projector on the dashboard or hood. Your family can pile in with their snacks and enjoy a drive-in movie together.

Do a themed movie night as a family. You all pick a theme for the movie, or movies, that week and get dressed up to watch them together. For example, if you are watching Harry Potter together, dress as your favorite characters to watch the film. Or, have a princes and princesses theme and all dress up regally. This gets everyone excited and thinking about movie night together because they have to plan costumes.
Sleep Over

Your movie night can easily be turned into an old fashioned sleep over to maximize your family time. Everyone watches the movies in their pajamas and sleeps on the floor in sleeping bags together. Another option is to build a "fort" out of blankets and chairs, like many kids do. Watch the movie from inside the fort and sleep there together.
