Gifts for Senior Dads
Choosing the right gift for your senior dad is an expression of just how much he means to you. Over the years he's probably received countless items, so you'll need to use your imagination to find something memorable for him. Realize that your time and thought are two of the things closest to his heart, so you may want to share an experience with him rather than purchase a tangible item.

Collage of His Milestones
-
Look back in photo albums through the years and choose pictures from your dad's most significant moments. Start with a piece of sturdy foam core or plywood and decorate it. You may wish to frame it. Find a baby picture for the center of the collage and then move out with his first day of school, first sports team picture, childhood friends, high school and college graduation, first job, wedding, travel and other important accomplishments. Include copies of any certificates or awards you have access to for a more poignant impact.
Origin of His Last Name
-
If he is interested in history, consider a genealogy print or book about his family name. Many online stores offer a history in a plaque or book form outlining the origin of a family name, famous people in history sharing the name and where it was derived and the country of origin. Data is pulled from census records, military records, ships' logs, immigrant and port records and other sources. This may also include a description of the arms, crest and motto of the family.

Tickets to a Game at His Alma Mater
-
Many universities across the country offer home game travel packages and alma mater weekends especially during homecoming. This may include game tickets, a luncheon or tailgate party, a souvenir like a T-shirt or cap plus a mixer with the football coach and/or players. Contact your dad's alumni association or the student center at his university for someone to help you plan for the event.
Memorable Trip
-
Plan a once-in-a-lifetime trip for your dad. This may be a trip to the town where he was born or even further back to the country where his ancestors are from. You may also consider a trip to the site of his honeymoon with your mother. Wherever you decide to send him, make all arrangements in advance including airline or train tickets, transportation while he is there, hotel reservations and any tours he may find interesting. Offer to join him on the trip. Reminiscing about his past could be an extremely rewarding experience for both of you. Contact your local travel agent to help plan the trip.
