Model a wedding cake after a fire truck.

Theme wedding cakes make wonderful conversation starters at a wedding reception. If the bride or groom works for the local fire department or wants to celebrate the firefighting profession, let the wedding guests know of their intent with a themed cake. Depending on their preferences, either the main wedding cake, groom's cake or both can celebrate the firefighting profession. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. A Fireman's Hat

    • Guests will instantly identify with the fireman theme when they see a cake shaped as a fireman's hat. Customizing the hat with a local department name, number, firefighter's rank or city personalizes a cake geared at honoring a specific firefighter. For a larger cake, arrange the hat next to a pair of firefighter boots also made from cake. With two distinct cakes in the wedding cake display, it's easy to offer two flavors of dessert. Tempt guests with fiery red velvet chocolate cake and a traditional white wedding cake.

    A Fire Truck

    • If you know of bakery specializing in theme cakes, order a wedding cake in the shape of a detailed fire truck. The logo of a local fire department and the wedding date piped in frosting on the truck will add authenticity to this special wedding cake. Celebrate the bride or groom's firefighting profession by putting a small wedding figurine of the person in the cab of the truck or by putting a wedding couple cake topper next to the truck as if the truck were the wedding day get-away vehicle.

    Fire Hydrant

    • For weddings with a red color theme, celebrate firefighting with a tall, red fire hydrant. To add color and a whimsical nature to a fire hydrant wedding cake, add small firefighting figurines climbing a ladder up the side of the tall cake. For dramatic appeal, position a bride and groom cake topper on the top of the fire hydrant for the firefighter figurines to rescue. To add more cake to the display, add a coiled fire hose or pool of water made of cake near the base of the fire hydrant.

    Fire Scene

    • For the ultimate firefighter wedding cake, ask the bakery to build a fire scene from cake. A fire truck and burning building covered in colorful fondant flanked by firemen made of royal icing will let wedding guests know of the wedding couple's passion for the firefighting profession. Complete the scene with a fondant fire hydrant, fireman's dog and long fire hoses.

    Traditional Cake

    • If you prefer a traditional layered wedding cake, incorporate a firefighting theme on the top and sides of the cake layers. Connect vertically tiered cakes with fireman's ladders topped with firefighter figurines. Place a small toy fire truck, firefighter's hat or fire department badge as the cake's topper. When cutting the cake, remove the plastic embellishments for easy slicing.
