Whether it is a costume for a party or a reason to celebrate Halloween, creating a couples themed costume links a duo together throughout the occasion. Instead of buying or making a traditional couples costume, focusing on a theme can help create a new and unique costume that connects both of you.

Historical

The story about George Washington chopping down a cherry tree can turn into a historical and humorous costume for couples. Dress one person as the cherry tree and the other one as the ax used by George Washington to chop it down. Benjamin Franklin's story about discovering electricity with a key and kite could be turned into a couples costume with one person dressed as the kite, one dressed like a key and the couple connected by a piece of string.

Animal

Couple costumes with an animal kingdom theme can take a unique twist when you enter make one person into the prey of the duo. For the carnivores, one person can dress up as a lion while the other person dresses up as an antelope or piece of meat. For the herbivores, have one person wear a rabbit costume and the half of the couple wear a carrot costume. The vampire theme could turn into a couple dressing as Mr. and Mrs. Vampire's victims or the heroes determined to save the village by killing the vampires with a stake.

Food

Using food as a theme for a couples costume can take on several different angles, such as a food item and its accompanying piece of utensil or a complementary food and beverage. One person could wear a pizza costume and the other half of the couple dress up as a fork. For a complementary food and beverage couples costume, themes could be a cookie and milk, tequila and lime or beer and hot dog.
