Gifts for Godmothers

Give the godmother a gift that will remind her of her spiritual duties.

According to the Catholic Doors Ministry, godmothers must assume constant guardianship over the baptized child, and this obligation is binding if the parents fail to do their own duties or if they die. Give the new godmother a personalized picture frame. Buy a picture frame and decorate it yourself or get one that is specially engraved. For example, you can paint or engrave the phrase, "My godchild" on the frame to remind her of the special child she vows to protect. Place a photo of her new godchild in the picture frame and give it to her at the baptism ceremony.

If the new godmother enjoys sipping tea, coffee or hot chocolate, gift her with a special mug on the baptism day. Capture the love the new godmother has for her godchild with a heart-shaped pendant on a necklace, bracelet or anklet. As she helps her godchild grow spiritually and religiously, she will be continuously reminded of the promise she made to help the child develop and grow into faith through love and devotion. You can also present the godmother with a necklace or bracelet with a crucifix pendant, symbolizing the commitment she made to her religion and her godchild.

Poem

Write a poem for the new grandmother commemorating her commitment and emphasizing how important she is in the life of her new godchild. You may wish to include passages from the Bible, favorite quotes or memories of the godmother with her godchild. This is a special gift that she will keep for years to come, and it will remind her of her importance in her godchild's life.
