Kids Valentine's Day Treat Ideas

Rather than filling kids up with all sorts of packaged candy at a Valentine's Day party, prepare some less traditional sweet treats for them to enjoy. Elementary-aged kids and older ones can help with mixing ingredients, using heart-shaped cookie cutters and assembling the treats for their friends.

  1. Cookie Sandwiches

    • Use two different sizes of heart-shaped cookie cutters to create cookie sandwiches filled with berry jam. After rolling out sugar cookie dough, use a large heart cookie cutter to create heart shapes. Use a smaller heart cookie cutter to cut out a heart in the center of half of the cookies. After baking and cooling the cookies, spread a layer of jam on the solid cookies and top each one with a cookie with a heart cutout.

    Brownie Cupcakes

    • Combine a cupcake and a brownie into one sweet treat that is perfect for taking to a kids Valentine's Day party. Start with any type of cupcake frosted with pink tinted icing. Use a 1 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to create small brownie hearts from a tray of brownies. For best results, the brownies should be no more than 1 inch tall. Top each cupcake with a brownie to make a double Valentine's Day treat.

    Lemonade Float

    • Create a fizzy love potion full of fruit flavor that kids will enjoy at their Valentine's Day party. Mix together equal amounts of pink lemonade and lemon-lime soda in a punch bowl. Float scoops of raspberry sherbet on top of the punch or put a scoop in each cup before filling it with punch.

    Layered Gelatin

    • Alternate layers of red and white gelatin to turn a familiar treat into something a little more exciting. Start with a layer of flavored red gelatin mixed according to its package directions. After it has been refrigerated for an hour, pour on a layer made from 7 oz. of sweetened condensed milk mixed with 1/4 oz. of unflavored gelatin. Continue adding another layer every hour until there are five layers. Cut the gelatin into heart shapes or cubes to serve.
