Alternatives to Children's Birthday Parties

Alternatives to Children's Birthday Parties thumbnail
If it's within reasonable driving distance, consider a trip to the seaside.

A house full of over-excited kids can easily lead to tears and a destroyed house, rather than a marvelous afternoon of fun. Children's parties are also expensive to put on now that party-goers all expect a goody bag to take home, as well as entertainment and food at the party. There are plenty of alternative ways to give your child a fun day, perhaps allowing him to choose just one or two best friends to join him. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Thrill Seeking

    • A day at the nearest amusement park appeals to most kids. If your daughter and a couple of her friends are dare-devil enough to enjoy being tossed up and down and around and around in all manner of contraptions, this is the perfect birthday celebration. It's probably best to buy day tickets rather than pay ride by ride so the kids will have a full day's entertainment, instead of a couple of short hours with lots of other children vying for attention. The junk food offerings at the park will also be a treat to kids who otherwise eat sensibly.

    A Rodeo

    • There are many towns and cities in North America that have rodeos during the spring or summer. If your child loves dressing up and playing "cowboys," a rodeo is the perfect way to celebrate his birthday. Similarly obsessed brothers and cowgirl sisters, can all put on their outfits and join in on this special trip. Rodeos, with all the noise and action, are great entertainment, and your child will be the envy of the school when they find out about his birthday trip.

    Rock Climbing

    • This is an activity that is easily and safely enjoyed now that climbing centers recreate the rock climbing experience on specially designed walls. Again, your child might like to take a friend with her and, after spending a couple of hours on the climbing walls, you can finish the trip off with a visit to a pizza joint on the way home.

Drag Racing and Monster Truck Events

    • These are other thrilling events for kids who love noise and activity. You are likely to find one or other of these events being organized not too far away. Boys, especially, tend to love this kind of entertainment but, just as there are now female drivers involved in these activities, you might find that your daughter is just as keen. Your child can also bring back plenty of mementos of his treat, with programs and posters that he can show his friends.

    Craft-Focused Outings

    • For children who enjoy milder activities, craft-focused outings might be more enjoyable. Look out for lessons advertised in the local newspaper, or ring local craft businesses to see what they offer. If you live close to a ceramics studio, for example, you will probably be able to have your child paint a piece of ceramic in their own design. The studio will glaze and fire it for you to collect later.
