Children's Activities With Seahorses

Children's Activities With Seahorses thumbnail
There are various activities that can be done using a seahorse theme.

Learning about seahorses can be exciting for children because of the seahorse's distinctive features such as its body shape, colors and size. There are many hands-on art activities that can be incorporated with the lesson of seahorses, including finger paintings, puzzles, word searches and magnet seahorses.

  1. Fingerpaint Seahorses

    • Buy a pack of white construction paper and give a piece of paper to each child. Supply the children with a pencil and a stencil outline of a seahorse or print one seahorse out from the computer and trace one onto each piece of construction paper for the children in advance. Have the children cut out their seahorses and allow them to decorate their seahorses with their fingers using a variety of colored paint. They can also add glitter and confetti.

    Seahorse Puzzle

    • Choose pictures of seahorses, or use an outline drawing of a seahorse that the children can color in. Glue the picture of the seahorse to a piece of card stock paper. Trace the outline of puzzle pieces and have the children cut the puzzle pieces out. For smaller children, an adult may have to use the scissors to cut the pieces out. After the pieces are cut out, the children can assemble their puzzles.

    Seahorse Word Search

    • Print out a seahorse word search that's age appropriate for the children you are working with. Have the children find words that are related to seahorses, such as "ocean," "water" or "prehensile tail." The word search could be shaped like a seahorse.

    Magnet Seahorses

    • Have the children make their very own magnet seahorses to display on their refrigerators at home. Buy magnet paper and print the pictures for different types of seahorses. Allow the children to choose which of the seahorses they'd like. Have them color and decorate their seahorses with markers, crayons and glitter. Use glue to paste the picture of the seahorse to the magnet. Allow the magnets to dry before the children take them home.
