Sexy Costumes of the 1920s
The 1920s began to define the modern, sexy woman. She smoked and drank in public, danced with more abandon, and participated in the workforce. The costumes that evoke this era reflect this new definition of sensuality by showing more skin, being more flattering to a woman's figure, and emphasizing her independent nature. The following costumes are rooted in the history and nostalgia of the era, and are excellent choices for a party or event. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Flapper
-
One of the most well-known costumes from the 1920s, the flapper costume features a loose, shapeless dress that cuts above the knee. The bright colors, lighter fabrics and fringe emphasize the freedom and movement of the dress. Headbands adorned with sequins or feathers are often worn on the head, while large, beaded necklaces drape the neck and torso. Sometimes, this sexy costume is further accessorized with a garter worn around the thigh.
Cigarette Girl
-
The bright colors, form fitting bodice and short, frilly skirts make the cigarette girl costume extremely alluring and perfect for a costume party. A small pillbox hat adorns the top of the head, and silk stockings accentuate the legs. Wear a T-strapped shoe with a thick 1- or 2-inch heel. Place the cigarette holder tray around the neck. Fill the holder tray with candy cigarettes and hand them out during the party for an added touch.

Sexy Gangster
-
The pinstripe suit, fedora and black shoes all represent gangsters of the 1920s. To make this costume a bit sexier and more feminine, cinch at the waist with a form-fitting, shorter jacket and wear a brightly colored corset underneath. The pants should hug the figure, or substitute them with a short, form-fitting skirt. Adding a black stiletto pump or boot and a long string of pearls completes this sexy costume.
Bathing Beauty
-
Bathing suits in the 1920s were extremely modest by today's standards. However, the cotton or wool knit fabrics hugged a woman's figure, flattering every curve. The modesty panel or skirt that covers the front of the suit makes it suitable as a costume, and details such as embroidered designs and buttons make it appear more like a dress than swimsuit. Add a pair of sandals as the finishing touch.
