STD-810F Specifications
The STD-810F is a military test method standard that all of the agencies and departments comprising the Department of Defense adhere to. More specifically, STD-810F is a revision of the standard, which replaced the E revision in 2000 and was replaced by the G revision in 2008. STD-810F provides Department of Defense employees with information regarding best practice for laboratory tests and environmental engineering.

Document Type
-
STD-810F is known as a living document, which means the military will update it as new methodologies and technologies become available. Department of Defense workers can submit suggestions for changes using the Standardization Document Improvement Proposal -- DD Form 1426 -- which appears at the end of the STD-810F document. Workers must provide supporting data and rationale for their suggested changes and can then mail the forms to ASC/ENOI, Bldg. 560, 2530 Loop Road West, Wright-Patterson AFB OH 45433-7101.
Intent
-
As stated in the STD-810F document, this test method standard has five listed intentions or goals. These are 1) to provide definitions for the levels, durations and environmental stress sequences of materiel life cycles, 2) to allow for the development of tailored-criteria for analyzing and testing specific materiel and its environmental life cycle, 3) to evaluate materiel performance in response to stresses, 4) to identify problems with materiel design and materiel manufacturing and maintenance methods and 5) to show "compliance with contractual requirements."
-
Applicability
-
The processes and stipulations presented in the STD-810F apply to all of the materiel that workers acquire or develop, both for commercial and military applications. These include non-development item, or NDI, procurements; modifications of Allied equipment or systems, also known as procurements; and cooperative development opportunities that include one or more Allied nations.
Types of Users
-
There are three primary types of users, or Department of Defense workers, who would need to refer to the STD-810F. These are program managers, environmental engineering specialists and members of the evaluation, test and design community. As the test method standard notes, program managers, in addition to other duties, are responsible for ensuring that systems and concepts are functional in particular environments. Environmental engineering specialists, in comparison, help in the development of materiel in the early stages, providing tailored testing programs and criteria. Members of the evaluation, test and design community -- who include engineers, analysts and operators -- use tests and design criteria for meeting user needs.
Parts
-
The STD-810F is divided into two parts. Part one focuses on the technical, engineering and management aspects of test tailoring processes and environmental design. More specifically, it describes how workers can design and test materiel so that it is adapted to function in specific environments. Part two of the STD-810F provides laboratory testing methods, which workers can apply to the design and testing guidelines they establish using part one.
