Ways to Start an Affiliate Marketing Business
There are two primary ways to start an affiliate marketing business: you can sell products for someone else as an affiliate or you can sell your own products by recruiting others to sell for you as affiliates. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you.
-
Sell Other's Products
-
Selling for others is the fastest way to start an affiliate marketing business. You do not have to create your own product, you don't have to create your own promotional material and you have thousands of products to choose from. Sites such as Commission Junction, Clickbank and Shareasale represent hundreds of affiliate programs. You sign up with one or more programs through these sites and they handle paying you and providing services to affiliates like you.
To get started, simply select a product or service with an affiliate program. Sign up for the program. Receive a special code so that when someone clicks on a link with that code, they will be directed to the product's web site and you will get credit for the sale.
Sell Your Own Product and Recruit Affiliates
-
The easiest product to create is an information product. Pick a narrow niche that doesn't have heavy competition and build a special report or ebook about the topic. Build a website to sell the product. Video is recommended along with copy for those who prefer to read about the product. Set up a way to take orders. One of the easiest order-taking solutions is PayPal. The company will take and process orders using their system or by accepting major credit cards. To make this system work, you simply set up your product in PayPal and place an order button Paypal provides on your website.
To recruit affiliates, ask a company such as Commission Junction, Clickbank or Shareasale to carry your product. Your advantage is that thousands of affiliates visit these company sites looking for affiliate programs and some will be interested in selling for you.

Decide Which Approach You Will Use
-
If you have never sold a product on the Internet before, don't invest time in product creation or recruiting affiliates. Start easily and simply by selling other's products. You will get some basic affiliate marketing experience and can decide in the future if you want to develop your own product and program.
Finding Customers
-
To succeed at affiliate marketing, you must find customers. Sign up for an inexpensive Internet and affiliate marketing training program offered by reputable and knowledgeable Internet marketing experts. Take advantage of free training offered by many affiliate companies such as Commission Junction.
