The United States is filled with a variety of porcelain arts schools that teach their students how to create and decorate this glassy, ceramic ware. Each school contains a different curriculum and unique instructors serving to educate a variety of artists of all skill levels. Professional artists as well as hobbyists enjoy the creative outlet and learning processes that such schools offer.

The Midwest Porcelain Arts School

The Midwest Porcelain Arts School is a five-day event held in Excelsior, Missouri for beginning and advanced porcelain painters from all over the world. Held each fall at the Elms Resort and Spa, this school invites porcelain artists from various locations to participate and learn skills from the school's three porcelain masters and directors. Each student's tuition includes classes, lunches, evening activities and a special banquet dinner. Class firings are also included which allow each student to bake their porcelain craft in the kiln, prior to adding decoration. Reservations at the Elms Resort and Spa aren't required but are offered at an additional cost for the convenience of the students.

Each year on Tybee Island, Georgia, the GA Seminars by the Sea program offers their Porcelain Art School at the Beach. Viki Braun, founder of the school, created the concept of porcelain artists learning, creating and enjoying together in an inspiring beach setting. Each of the 13 instructing artists possess unique techniques and areas of concentration to share with the students. Tuition includes four full days of school, all kiln firing, six days and five-night luxury accommodations in bed and breakfast-style villas and all catered meals.

The Upper Midwest Porcelain Arts School

The Upper Midwest Porcelain Arts School is located in South English, Iowa. Students of this four-day school have their choice among a multitude of course instructors, each possessing a different concentration and techniques in porcelain arts. Each teacher selection is assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. The piece, size and style of all china created and fired within the school is decided by the instructing teacher. Tuition covers the firing of two pieces created during each day of class. Additional pieces may be fired at an additional cost if kiln space is available. Nearby lodging accommodations have been reserved and are not included in the price of tuition.
The Minnesota Porcelain Art School

The Minnesota Porcelain Art Guild hosts a porcelain arts school every two years which is open to all porcelain painters and artist of any skill level. A total of five skilled teachers and projects are offered during this three-day session. The cost of the school registration also includes a membership to the Midwest Porcelain Art Guild, entitling students to all informational mailings and privileges. Students of the school are able to select the instructor with whom they wish to study. Selections are made based on a colored photo of work created by each of the instructors as well as brief descriptions of the project they will specifically be offering.
