Square Modern Wedding Cake Ideas
Wedding cake doesn't have to be a traditional stack of round layers of vanilla cake. You can have flavors of all sorts and different shapes. If you're having a wedding with modern flair, you might want a square cake. For a small guest list, a single large square might suffice, but for a larger wedding, you can stack several squares of graduated sizes. Enhance the cake's look with serving tools in sleek stainless steel. Does this Spark an idea?

Polka Dots
-
Cover the cake in solid fondant, then add fondant polka dots in your wedding color or colors. For an extremely modern look, use polka dots of several sizes. You can order one cake layer or several. Give your cake decorator a swatch of fabric from a bridesmaid's dress so she can match the color.
Multi-Design
-
For a whimsical-looking modern cake, make a layer frosted with polka dots, a layer of solid color, a layer of stripes and a layer of plaid. The layers can be angled on top of each other rather than squarely stacked. In flowery colors, this cake is fun for a spring wedding.

Stripes
-
You can have a stripe-decorated cake with wide or narrow stripes in any assortment of colors. Dark chocolate stripes look impressive with white frosting. Pastel stripes are pretty for a summer wedding. The stripes generally consist of fondant. If you aren't fond of the taste of fondant but like the way it looks, ask for a layer of tasty icing underneath the fondant.
Tower
-
For an urban look, turn your cake into a tower. Stack layers of slightly graduated sizes, then cover the whole cake with fondant. Due to the smooth surface, the cake can even be painted with baking paint, perhaps with a geometric design in your wedding colors.
