A Career Objective for a Resume in Accounting
Whether you are a freshly designated accountant or have been in the industry for years, you have many opportunities for employment as an accountant. This allows you to pick one area of specialization and write a clear, focused and specific career objective on his resume.
-
Paths
-
The career objective must include the career path chosen by the accountant. There are many from which to choose. He can be a certified public accountant, an auditor, a managerial accountant, a forensic account or a tax accountant. The accountant must first choose the industry in which he wants to work. For example, if he is interested in investigating white-collar crime or criminal money laundering, then forensic accounting would be his best choice.
Company Type
-
The career objective needs to list the type of industry in which the accountant wants to work. The accountant needs to ask herself, "What kind of company do I want for?" Every business needs an accountant of some description. An accountant can work for a major accounting firm worth a worldwide reach, such as Deloitte or Ernst & Young, or she can choose a smaller, more localized firm that services the needs of clients within a smaller area. She can seek employment for a major corporation or a government agency as well.

Industy Choices
-
Why does the accountant want to work in a specific field in a specific industry? That must be answered in the career objective. For example, an accountant may be skilled in the field of tax accounting and believes his skills are best used for helping a business prepare its tax statements and finding tax strategies to help the company. The hiring company wants to see know why the accountant wants to work for it.
Be Specific
-
Being concise is very important in a career objective. And with so many different options for accountants, the career objective has to specifically lay out the field and nature of employment the accountant is seeking. A general objective will be glossed over and probably tossed in the garbage. The accountant must know what she wants and be able to tell the prospective employer her goal.
Put It Together
-
After the accountant has decided his career path, the type of company for which he wants to work, why he is suited for it and has a specific goal, it's time to put it together. Write it in a way that entices the reader to continue reading the resume. It must relate to the job for which the accountant is applying. If the accountant is qualified, a well-written career objective will help him land the job he is looking for.
