Second Grade Art Projects for Fall
The colors and objects of fall will inspire second-graders with these fun and easy art projects. Turkeys, pine cones and leaves will come alive as the children flex their creative muscles with paper, tissue, ribbon, glitter and glue. These lessons will expose the students to the achievement standards for materials, techniques, structure and ideas, as well as teaching the children to use art supplies and tools in a safe and responsible manner.

3D Paper Turkey Sculpture
-
Turkey art is fun and colorful. This adorable Thanksgiving turkey project puts a new twist on the traditional paper turkey. This turkey will be assembled with layers of construction paper and corrugated cardboard to give the artwork a 3D style. Students will cut out the basic shapes of their turkey (fanned tail feathers, body, side wings, neck, head, eye and beak) from colorful construction paper. To complete the project they will layer the turkey shapes from back to front and glue them together with corrugated cardboard between each layer. Sandwich a stick in the middle of the layers to allow them to carry or display their turkeys.
Fall Inspired Tissue Paper Wreaths
-
The warm colors of fall make a beautiful tissue paper wreath. Fall colors will make this art project warm and inviting. Students will select tissue papers in deep gold, red and brown colors to make beautiful tissue paper wreaths. Cut strips of tissue paper in 4-by-10-inch size. Bend a metal clothes hanger into a circular shape for the wreath base. Taking two sheets at a time, students will fold the paper around the hangar and twist to attach to the wreath base. Complete the project by pushing each paper twist down the hanger until it is full, fluffy and full of fall colors. Top the wreath with a big green paper bow.

GlitterRolled Pine Cones
-
Large pine cones will be glitter-embellished for fall table accents. Embellishing large pines with gold and silver glitter will create sparkly fall accents for the dinner table, mantle or display bowl. Three bowls will be filled with the easy materials for this project. One bowl will contain a 1/4-inch layer of glue, and the other two bowls will each contain a 1/2-inch layer of gold and silver glitter. Each student will wear disposable gloves to protect him from glitter particles. The first step will be to roll the pine cones in the glue. The second step is to roll the cones in either gold or silver glitter to make perfect pine cone accents. It's that easy.
Falling Leaves Paper Collage
-
Easy-shaped leaves should be selected for this project. A falling leaves paper collage teaches simple shape, form and structure to students in a colorful way. Students will draw and cut a simple sun, lawn base, tree trunk, leaves and branches from colorful construction paper. They will use a blue sky background and glue their cutouts to the collage. To complete their project, leaves will be sparingly added to the upper tree limbs, to the space between the limbs and the lawn (to resemble falling leaves) and to the ground below.
