Florida Law Schools for International Students

The study of law is noble.

There are at least 10 American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law schools in the state of Florida, all of which offer Juris Doctor degrees and accept qualified international students that meet their admissions criteria. Five of these law schools stand out from the pack with programs of study, journals and law reviews geared specifically toward international students or the study of international law.

  1. University of Florida Levin College of Law

    • The Levin College of Law is located on the University of Florida campus in Gainsville, Florida, about an hour north of Orlando. It offers a Juris Doctor degree and certificates in International Law and other legal disciplines. The school also publishes the Florida Journal of International Law. Students at the Levin College of Law have the options of clinical programs in civil and criminal law, along with student exchange and summer abroad programs with law schools outside the United States.

    Florida State University College of Law

    • The Florida State University College of Law is located in northwest Florida and offers a Juris Doctor degree program and certificates in international law and other areas of study. The law school also offers joint-degree programs, a study abroad summer program with Oxford University in England, clinical programs with domestic and foreign placements and a legal clinic where students are placed in-house. The school publishes the Florida State University Journal of Transnational Law and Policy.

    University of Miami School of Law

    • The University of Miami School of Law offers a Juris Doctor degree and an LLM (Master of Laws) degree. Students also have the option of joint degrees in law and business administration and law and medicine. The school offers clinical programs, as well as student exchange and summer abroad programs with law schools outside the United States. The school also publishes the University of Miami International and Comparative Law Review, and the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review.

    Florida International University School of Law

    • The Florida International University School of Law is located in South Florida and offers a Juris Doctor degree program that emphasizes international and comparative law: All first-year students take a mandatory international law class, and all classes include an international component. Second- and third-year students also have several elective international law courses from which to choose. This school offers clinical studies in immigrant children justice, immigration & human rights, juvenile justice, education law, criminal law, community development and judicial externship.

    Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center

    • The Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center is located in South Florida. It offers a Juris Doctor degree program that affords every student enrolled in the school an opportunity to experience a clinic or an externship. The Broad Law Center offers an International Law program and programs involving other areas of study. Students fluent in Spanish and English can earn dual law degrees from Nova Southeastern and the University of Barcelona. Semester abroad programs are also available with universities in Venice and Prague. The Broad Law Center has an International Law Students Association that publishes a Journal of International and Comparative Law.
