Class Projects for End-of-the-Year Teacher Gifts
Rather than having each family buy a separate gift for the teacher at the end of the school year, the whole class can work together on a project to give to the teacher. A joint project shares the cost and helps the teacher to remember the class as a whole.

Flower Garden
-
As the teacher heads home for the summer, give a gift of flowers that will brighten up his yard for the next few months. Each child should create a flower out of colored paper, write a thank-you note on it and tape it to the end of a green chenille stem. Children can also bring flower bulbs or packets of flower seeds. Place all of the bulbs and seeds in a basket and insert the paper flowers in the spaces in between.
Scrapbook
-
The class can work together to make a scrapbook of memories from the year to give to the teacher on the last day of school. Select an organizer who should give each student a sheet of scrapbook paper. Students can work on the project at home with their parents and include photos, drawings and words of appreciation for the teacher.

Handprint Art
-
Create a memorable piece of art for the teacher to hang in her office or home to help her remember one of her years of teaching. Start with a blank stretched canvas and a variety of paint colors. For younger kids, spread the paint on paper plates and let the kids choose a color in which to dip a hand before stamping it on the canvas. Older children can paint a design onto their hand with a paintbrush. Have each child write his name next to his handprint.
Video Memories
-
Students can make a DVD for the teacher that shows each of them recording a heartfelt message for the teacher. A parent can come into school one day and set up a video camera near the classroom. Kids can take turns recording a message with memories of favorite class projects or activities, descriptions of what the kids like about the teacher or gratitude for the teacher's hard work. Video footage during recess can show kids interacting together or singing songs for the teacher as well.
