Reasons to Buy a House
Whether to rent your living space or buy a house or condo is a big decision. You must consider your budget, your location, your family size and your well-being. While there are many reasons to rent, there are also many reasons to buy.
-
Investment
-
A home purchase is an investment. If you buy a property in a decent community, chances are that the value of the home will increase over time. The money you pay toward your mortgage every month is money you pay toward your investment. When you rent, your monthly payments are for the use of the property, but you get no return other than a place to live. When you leave your apartment, the money is gone. However, when you sell the house you own, you can make a profit.
Space
-
Large apartments are available for rent, but homes often have more space, including garages, basements and yards. If you buy a house, you can have a garden, room for your children and pets to play outside in a safe environment, and space to store your personal belongings.
-
Style
-
You can decorate a home you own in any manner you see fit. Whether your tastes are neutral, eclectic, modern or bizarre, the property is yours and you can paint your walls and finish your floors however you choose. You can replace your appliances and customize your interior. If you rent, although you can decorate, you must follow your landlord's guidelines for paint, flooring and appliances.
Privacy
-
Houses are isolated living quarters, separate and apart from their neighboring properties. If you own a house, you have much greater privacy than you would have living in an apartment. In an apartment, you may have neighbors above, below and next door who can hear your television set, your parties and every argument with your spouse.
