Choose an appropriate gift for a child graduating from elementary school.

When people think of graduation, high school or college usually comes to mind. But for young children, graduating from elementary school is a big deal. Elementary students are heading for middle school or junior high school, depending on how their school system is set up. Choose a gift to mark the occasion or to help the student on his journey moving forward.

  1. Back Pack

    • Give the elementary school graduate a new back pack that she can use in middle school or junior high. Advancing in school likely means that the student will have to start carrying larger and heavier books. Choose a back pack that is large enough for the books and has enough support so that the child's back and neck aren't strained.

    Scrapbook

    • Give the elementary school graduate a gift basket filled with items she can use to create a scrapbook. Fill the basket with a blank scrapbook, extra pages, markers, pens, a glue stick, scissors, colored paper and stickers. She can use the scrapbook to record memories of elementary school or can keep it and start a new scrapbook for her new school.

    Locker Items

    • Many kids don't have lockers in elementary school, but they likely will in middle school or junior high school. Give the graduate items that he can use with his new locker. For example, choose magnets to hold notes on the inside of the locker and a lock to make sure all of his items are safe. You can also find shelving units that fit inside lockers and help students keep everything in order.

    Day Trip

    • Rather than giving the elementary school graduate a traditional gift, choose an experience instead. Take her and a group of her friends on a day trip to celebrate their graduation. Take them to a local amusement park or arcade. Alternatively, take the kids to the movies, the zoo or on a trip to the local mall.
