Creative Writing

School Express provides a creative writing activity called Look and Write. Suitable for elementary school students, the Look and Write worksheets contain a cartoon picture and a lined paragraph below. Print out the worksheet with the picture you would like to use and distribute them to the class. In teams or individually, students look at the picture and write what they think it is about. Responses can range from simple to hilariously creative, and students will be eager to share what they have written. You may also give children further options by using Match and Write sheet sets, which contain half a dozen pictures to choose from while still concentrating on a centralized theme.

Science

For science, School Express has designed an activity that encourages thorough research and problem solving. Print out the Research question sheets and distribute them to teams of two to four students. The students read the research question on their team's sheet and get to work on finding an answer, recording their research and further findings, and finally choosing one team member as the illustrator to draw a picture that represents their topic. The topics are appropriate for elementary and middle school students.
