Military Schools for Boys in Florida
Military schools are private institutions that provide academic and preparatory courses for students. Schools tend to be traditional, with a focus on instilling discipline and hard work in students. Boarding schools also provide a pathway to careers in the military. Two military schools operate in Florida: Florida Air Academy and Admiral Farragut Academy.

Florida Air Academy

Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, founded in 1961, is a private college-preparatory boarding school for boys and girls in grades 7 to 12. The academy focuses on providing students with opportunities in academics, athletics and social development. The dress code for students is formal, and English as a Second Language courses are offered. This school also offers a summer program.

Students are required to submit grades and transcripts from previous schools and letters of reference from math and English teachers. Students are required to complete an interview with the admissions board; this can be conducted by telephone call in some cases. The application fee is $100, and students must print and sign an Online User Agreement, and have it notarized, before applying.

Admiral Farragut Academy

Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg is a coed military school that is a recognized Honor Naval Academy. The college promotes academic excellence, leadership skills and social development for students from elementary school to high school. The school was founded in 1933 and follows no religious doctrine. Dress code is formal, and the average class size is about 16 students. The program is also open to students whose first language is not English.
Admission

Applicants pay a $100 fee, undergo an on-campus interview and submit an application, including transcripts from the last three institutions, two teacher recommendations and the most recent standardized test scores. Elementary school students must pay a $75 application fee and submit results from any individualized testing, one teacher recommendation and attend a class for a day to test their ability to fit in.
