Drama & Music Colleges

There are dozens of drama and music colleges located throughout the United States. Many of the top drama and music colleges in the nation, like Julliard and Columbia University, are found in cities like New York City and Los Angeles. However, most larger colleges and universities in the United States offer drama and music programs. Many drama and music colleges offer undergraduate as well as graduate level programs.

Carnegie Mellon University

The Fine Arts College of Carnegie Mellon University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, features both a drama and music school. Undergraduate music students can take coursework that leads to such degrees as a B.F.A. in Instrumental Performance, a B.F.A. in Music Composition and a B.F.A. in Keyboard Performance. There are graduate-level music programs in Collaborative Piano and Composition, Conducting and Performance Education. Undergraduate drama students can pursue a B.F.A. in Dramaturgy and graduate students can pursue an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing.

American Musical and Dramatic Academy

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy has campuses in both New York City and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, students can pursue a B.F.A. in Musical Theater. A two-year Integrated program is available that combines coursework in acting, musical theater and dance. Students can also pursue a B.F.A. in Performing Arts or a B.F.A. in acting at the Los Angeles location. Many of the programs offered at the Los Angeles location include an option to study for a semester in New York City.

Julliard School

The Julliard School is located in New York City. Julliard offers degree programs in several areas of performing arts. Students at Julliard interested in drama can take classes in the four-year Actor Training Program. Completing coursework in this program is necessary to earn a B.F.A. in Drama. Music students can take the necessary coursework to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in such fields as Composition, Jazz Studies, Organ and Piano. At Julliard, Master of Music programs are available in several fields including Collaborative Piano, Jazz Studies and Voice.

Columbia University New York

Columbia University also features a campus in New York City. This institution's music department offers courses that lead to a few degree options. Students can complete the necessary coursework for a B.A. in Music at Columbia; graduate students can pursue an M.A. in musicology. Undergraduate drama students can major in Drama and Theater Arts at this institution. M.F.A. programs as well as Ph.D. programs are available to graduate students.
