Netflix offers a variety of Christmas DVDs throughout the year and many of them are available for streaming directly to your television. If you will rent at a more traditional video rental store, check in advance to ensure they have Christmas movies in August. Your local library may have holiday movies that you can check out for no cost, and you can always ask friends and neighbors to loan you a film.
Christmas Party
-
Invite close friends and family members to celebrate Christmas in August with a party hosted by you and your children. Have your kids create invitations from last year's left-over Christmas cards, cutting the fronts of the cards to use as the invitation so you can write the party details on the back. Serve traditional fare, such as ham biscuits, gingerbread cookies, peppermint ice cream and punch. Set up an artificial Christmas tree in the house or backyard and let the kids decorate it with ornaments and tinsel. Sing carols and allow the children to exchange inexpensive gifts.

Scavenger Hunt
-
Create a list of Christmas-themed items, such as an old Christmas card, ornament, packet of hot chocolate, marshmallow, Hershey kiss and other similar items, that children can search for around the house or neighborhood. Only include items that they can easily find. Assign a numeric value to each item on the list, then give each child a list and have them collect as many of the items as possible in the given time frame. The child who ends up with the most points is declared winner.
