Project Ideas for the End of the School Year

Choose year-end activities for your class that the children will enjoy. They spent the whole year learning math, English and history, so send them off to their summer vacation with good memories of their elementary school years. A wide variety of year-end activities will leave lasting memories in the minds of your students.

  1. Scrapbook

    • During the school year, save children's art projects and assignments. At the end of the year, you can give all the students these saved projects, so they can put together a scrapbook. Provide glue sticks, glitter, stickers and other craft supplies, so children can decorate their scrapbooks. The children can use a hole-puncher and string to bind their scrapbooks. It will give children an opportunity to reflect on what they learned over the school year. Parents also will appreciate the scrapbook.

    Egg Drop

Divide your students into groups and have them design a container to hold an egg, so it doesn't break. The last day of school, drop the containers with eggs from a designated height. You can use the second story of the school, or the teacher can climb up a ladder. This is a fun way to spend your last day before summer break.

    Talent Show

Hold a talent show on the last day of school. Make sure to bring MP3 speakers or CD players for students who will be dancing or singing. Have the class vote for the most talented students and give away prizes to the winners. It is a good idea to have inexpensive consolation prizes, like crayons or small toys, to give to all the students.

    Kids Teach the Class

    • Divide your students into groups. Let each group decide on a topic they want to teach. They can teach about something fun, like their favorite cartoon characters. They can also teach about their favorite historical figures. Leave it up to the groups, but make sure to approve the topics. Allow the students some time to put together a presentation. Let each group teach the class for a fun activity on the last day of school.
