Things to Do When You're Home Sick From School

Depending on how sick you are, you might be out of school for days or weeks. Although rest should be your first priority, if you find yourself feeling well enough, there are some fun and constructive things you can do to help pass the time.

School Work

  • Spend this down time completing class work that you'll need to make up, so when you return to school, you already will be caught up or at least not too far behind. To find out what was assigned, call a classmate to get the scheduled homework and class work for each class missed.

Read

  • Enjoy your down time at home and do some recreational reading. Whether it is the latest gossip magazine, comic books, fiction or nonfiction book, read it and enjoy. This activity won't be too strenuous on your recuperating body, and it can be done from the comfort of your own bed.

Rest

  • The whole reason you're home from school is because you're sick. Even if you're feeling a little better, you should take this opportunity to really get some rest and follow the doctor's orders. If he's requiring you to take a certain medication at a certain time of day, then do so. If he wants you to drink plenty of fluids, then do so. Rest will allow your body time to heal.

Watch Movies, TV or Browse the Internet

  • Catch up on the latest movies or television shows from the comfort of your bed. This activity doesn't require much energy. If television becomes boring, go on the Internet and surf the Web. Email friends from school to find out about their day, browse a few gossip sites or begin your research on any upcoming projects you may have to do for school.
