Whether you choose a four-year college or a local vocational college, funding is available for tuition.

Hundreds of scholarships are available for students who want to go to college but can't afford the cost. Some of the awards are small, $100 to $500, while others provide over $30,000 for the term of your studies. Local organizations, such as your local Women's Club or Lion's Club, may offer the smaller scholarships. Local chapters of national organizations, such as the Retired Teachers Association, also provide information for scholarships.

  1. Molar-Austin Scholarship

    • The Illinois Retired Teachers Association offers two scholarships to students aspiring to be teachers. The first award is the Molar-Austin scholarship and the second is IRTA Foundation scholarship. As of 2011, The Molar-Austin award totals $3,500, half for the fall and half for the spring semester, to a graduate of a Kendall County High School. The IRTA scholarship is for $1,500, open to any student registered in a Teacher's Certification Program and is also divided between the fall and spring semesters. Your local teacher's association or school board may offer similar scholarships.

    AIA/AAF Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship

    • The American Architectural Foundation awards five scholarships between $3,000 to $4,000, as of 2011, to minority students or those who come from an under-served background. To apply, you must have a letter of recommendation from your student counselor or an architect. If it is not possible to obtain the letter, you may submit a letter from another person who knows your interest and aptitude for the subject. You must also submit an essay, a drawing, your transcripts and an explanation of your financial need.

    Coca-Cola Scholars Program

    • The Coca-Cola company offers 250 scholarships each year to high school seniors across the nation. The applications are accepted August through October. Two hundred of the scholarships are for $10,000 and 50 of the scholarships are for $20,000, as of 2011. The application is completed online. A round of semi-finalists are chosen from all the applications and then narrowed down to the remaining 250 applicants. Interviews are held to determine the 50 national scholarship winners and the 200 regional scholarship winners.

    Ronald McDonald House Charities

    • Every student working at McDonalds qualifies for McDonald's USA National Employee Scholarship Program. For those who don't work at the hamburger chain, Ronald McDonald House Charities offers four scholarships to high school seniors under the age of 21. You must be a legal U.S. resident and eligible to attend a two or four year college. Each of the scholarships has a set of requirements you must meet to qualify for application.
