Earth Day Activities That Promote Teamwork
Earth Day is a day set aside to promote environmental awareness. In most countries, Earth Day falls on April 22 of each year. On that day, many people around the world engage in activities that promote environmental conservation. Many of these activities can be done with other people to promote teamwork. For example, you can carpool, organize a park cleanup, plant a tree, or recycle a large amount of material to promote environmental awareness among you, your group, or others around you. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Plant a Tree
-
Planting trees are great ways to promote teamwork while acting to save the environment. This activity is appropriate for all ages. However, if children are involved in planting the tree, they should be supervised by an adult. You can plant the tree in your yard, or another location where you are allowed to do so. Trees help provide oxygen to breathe, provide shade, and even help prevent flooding by absorbing water. They also absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, helping to mitigate the effects of greenhouse gases in our environment.
Recycle Used Materials
-
Everyday, consumers use large amounts of recyclable materials, including plastics from soda cans and bottles, cardboard from cereal boxes, and aluminum from tin cans. Although recycling these material has become popular, it's important to teach young people--and others--the importance of recycling. Gather a small or large group of people to round-up recyclable materials and take them to your local recycling center. If you live in an area that picks up your recyclable materials at your house, have your children gather the materials and place them in the recycleing can. Explain to them the necessity of recycling this material.

Organize a Park Cleanup Day
-
Gather a group, whether they are your children, their friends, or your co-workers, and clean up your local park. You will need large black trash bags, gloves and a tool to pick up trash. You will also need sunscreen. It is a good idea to have refreshments for your team. You can even turn this event into a competition: the group with the most trashed picked up will be given some kind of award. For example, you can have the winning team earn a cash award or movie tickets for picking up the most trash.
Carpool
-
One way to help protect the environment and promote environmental awareness is to carpool on Earth Day. Although you should consider carpooling other days, symbolically sharing a vehicle drives the point home that vehicle emissions have a negative effect on our environment. This is a great way to save gas money, as well. You can carpool on your way to work, to a recreational event, or another place where several people you know will be traveling.
