Animal Art Projects for Kindergarten
When creating a lesson plan about animals for your kindergartners, be sure to include creative hands-on art projects to pique their interest. The projects are open-ended with no wrong answers, which expands your pupils' imaginations and creativity. Use your own ingenuity to create simple yet engaging assignments for your kindergarten class so they can explore different types of animals from around the world.
-
Egg Carton Caterpillar
-
Cut several egg carton cups and give each pupil at least five cups to glue together in a straight line. Help students poke two holes in the first cup in the line using a pencil or scissors. Children can place pipe cleaners into the holes to create the caterpillar's antennas. Distribute crayons and markers to allow the kids to decorate their caterpillars.
Aquarium
-
Give each child a sheet of white paper and a bowl of goldfish crackers. Help them cut the paper into the shape of an aquarium bowl. Mix blue paint and glue in several small bowls. Each child should use the paint mixture and a paintbrush to color his aquarium. Make sure the kids paint thick layers so they can stick the goldfish crackers to the paint. Allow the finished products to dry and hang everyone's pictures up in the classroom.

Pine Cone Bird Feeder
-
Help your kindergartners make a pine cone bird feeder that they can use for bird watching. Give each pupil a pine cone and a plastic spoon. Instruct the class to fill the open areas of the cone with vegetable shortening or lard. Pour birdseed or corn meal in a large pan and have each child sit her pine cone in the pan and use the spoon to pour birdseed all over the cone. Tie a string around the top of the cone to hang it outside the classroom window, or allow the kids to take their feeders home.
Rabbit Ears
-
Cut white or gray strips of construction paper and fit one around each child's head. Staple the strips together and give each child his headband. Cut several gray or white rabbit ears out of construction paper as well as the small pink part that goes in front of the ears. The students can glue the pink and gray or white pieces together to create the rabbit's ears, and then glue them to their headbands. Give each child a handful of pink cotton balls to glue to the pink centerpiece of the ear.
