Christmas Hat Crafts and Embroidery Projects
The more you decorate, the more you and your family will enjoy celebrating a holiday. This is especially true at Christmas, where the "more" really is the merrier. You can have as much fun decorating yourself as you do the tree and house. Start at the top--a homemade Christmas hat is just the thing to inspire a festive mood in all who see it. Does this Spark an idea?

Kid's Crown
-
Provide your child with a band of red or green construction paper stapled to fit around her head and allow her to decorate it for Christmas wear. Glitter, Christmas-themed stickers, paper snowflakes, pipe cleaners, crayons, markers, paint or even images cut out from old Christmas cards will inspire her imagination.
Elf Stocking Cap
-
Use a skein of red yarn and a skein of green yarn and size seven straight needles. Cast on 80 stitches to fit an adult head with a 22-to-24-inch circumference. Knit two, purl two each row for ribbing for three inches, alternating red and green yarn every five rows. Once the ribbing is complete, use a stockinette stitch for the rest of the hat--knit one row, purl the next--and continue to alternate the two colors. Knit two stitches together at the start of every knit row and purl two stitches together at the start of every purl row to decrease. Cast off the last two stitches and sew the hat sides together to make a tube. Add a pom-pom or tassel at the end for the final elvish touch.

Reindeer Antlers
-
Help your child make a set of reindeer antlers he can wear himself or share with the family dog. Trace your child's hands onto stiff brown felt with a dark marker, have him cut them out and attach them to a headband with a hot-glue gun. Allow the glue to cool and have your child or the dog model them for photos.
Personalized Santa Hats
-
Whether you make your own red-and-white Santa hat from faux fur or buy one from the store, personalize it. Embroider "Santa Claus," "Ho, Ho, Ho" or a pair of holly leaves on the front. An embroidered band of ivy leaves just above the white brim adds a dignified touch to any Santa Claus outfit. Use all six strands of embroidery thread to fully cover the long fur.
