Book Making Ideas
Making a book is a fun and rewarding experience. Whether you are making a book for yourself or completing the project with your child, the book can be read, looked at and enjoyed for a long time. Books come in many different shapes and sizes and can cover a wide variety of topics.

Recipe Book
-
If you love to cook or know someone that does, this recipe book idea will be a hit for a special occasion like Mother's Day or Father's Day. Take a standard-bound notebook and glue two pages together at the top and bottom. This will create an envelope where recipes can be placed through the open side of the envelope. Decorate the front of the envelope with the type of recipe that belongs in each envelope. Be creative with construction paper to design the front and back covers for the recipe book.
Fold-Out Book
-
Many people remember enjoying pop-out books as a child. You can create your own fold-out book with pages that expand beyond the book cover. To make the pages, fold a square piece of paper in half diagonally and unfold. Flip the paper over and fold in half horizontally and unfold. Fold the paper in half vertically and unfold. When you grab the top corners of the paper and bring your hands close together, the paper forms a square that can be folded on itself. Glue the pages together and place between two decorated foam mat boards.

Greeting Card Book
-
Kids love to create books. Use greeting cards to help them create their own story. Cut off the picture covers and have your child dictate a story to you. Place the cards on construction paper. Write out the story on the construction paper. Use ribbon or glue to bind the pages together. Have your child design the cover and back.
Animal Books
-
What is your child's favorite animal? Draw and cut out a shape of the animal and make multiple pages in the same shape. Have your child design the cover with construction paper, feathers or cotton balls. On the inside pages, put information and facts about the animal. If space allows, draw small pictures and scenes. Use ribbon to combine all the pages.
Online Resources
-
If you want to make your own professional-looking books, use websites such as Mixbook to create your own book. The bookmaking websites allow you to design all aspects of the book, including uploading your own pictures and designs to be used in your book. These are great for picture books or designing simple memory books. These websites will save these books for viewing online or the books can be purchased and a hard copy of the book will be mailed. Pricing varies depending on how large the book is and what type of book is created.
