Sugar-Free Vodka Drinks

Sugar-Free Vodka Drinks thumbnail
On its own, vodka is relatively low in calories.

Although alcohol itself is relatively low in calories---approximately 56 calories per shot of vodka---the juices and soda used to mix with vodka contain much higher amounts of sugar and calories. If you are trying to reduce your sugar intake, but still want to indulge in a few drinks, these low sugar drinks fit the bill. As with any food or drink item, moderation is always best -- if you are reducing your sugar intake for diet and weight purposes drinking alcohol can be a step in the wrong direction. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Vodka Cranberry

    • Vodka cranberry, also known as a Cape Cod, is a popular fruity drink containing alcohol. This drink is made by filling a glass with ice, adding one ounce of vodka and topping off the glass with cranberry juice. For a low sugar alternative, make this drink using a diet cranberry juice that is sweetened using artificial sweeteners.

    Bloody Caesar

    • The Bloody Caesar is a popular drink, especially for the summer months. This cocktail is made by rimming a glass with celery salt, filling the glass with a few ice cubes and putting a one ounce shot of vodka into the glass. It is then topped off with Clamato juice, tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce and a bit of salt and pepper. A stalk of celery can be added as a garnish. This drink doesn't use any fruit drinks or soda, making it low in sugar. However, this drink does contain a lot of salt.

    Vodka Collins

    • The Vodka Collins is another take on the popular Tom Collins. This drink is made by shaking ice, two ounces of vodka, a splash of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of sugar together. The mixture is strained into a Collins glass. Ice and carbonated water are added to the glass to top it off. For a sugar free version of this drink, simply replace the two teaspoons of sugar with two packets of your favorite artificial sweetener.

    Dirty Vodka Martini

    • The dirty vodka martini is a new take on the classic dirty martini, except instead of using gin, vodka serves as the base. To make this drink, pour 3 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of dry vermouth and a half ounce of olive brine into a shaker. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Because this drink does not have any fruit juices or soda, it is another low sugar alternative.
