Why Do the Pictures on My Dell Monitors Look Blurry?
Dell Computers makes a number of products ranging from fully functioning desktop computers to peripheral items such as printers, multimedia devices and monitors. While many of these monitors are designed to deliver top quality displays, like most electronics, they can experience problems including showing blurry images. Several of these problems have solutions that can be quickly implemented to maximize the monitor's potential.
-
Signal
-
One possible cause for a Dell monitor to appear blurry is the signal being received by the monitor. Dell monitors such as the Dell UltraSharp Series U2711 Monitor are designed to display information in very clear HD with a display resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000 to 1. Of course this monitor can also be plugged into a non-HD source such as a VGA computer graphics card, component video or composite video port. These signals, in comparison to the maximum resolution of the monitor, will look blurry and hazy. Unfortunately, this condition cannot be remedied without the upgrade of your viewing signal. Upgrade from standard DVD or a VGA graphics card to an HD capable format.
Settings
-
If a monitor such as the Dell IN1920 HD monitor is receiving signal in HD, but the picture is still blurry, the graphics settings on the computer may be incorrectly set. Solve this problem in Windows 7 by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "Personalize." In this menu, select "Display" and then "Adjust Resolution." From here, set the "Resolution" field to its highest point and then click "Apply" and "OK." Data will now be transmitted to the monitor in the highest resolution possible.
-
Pressure on the Monitor
-
If the Dell monitor in question is a Dell ST2220T Multi-touch Monitor, the problem may not be a software issue, but a hardware one. Use a lint free cloth to clear the monitor of fingerprints and oils left by the hand during touch-screen operation. Next, make sure to touch the screen only very lightly and not to press hard enough to cause stress to the monitor. If too much pressure is applied to the monitor too often, results range from dead pixels to overall blurry picture and even complete monitor failure. If the monitor has permanently blurry patches, it may be necessary to replace the monitor screen.
Menu
-
If your Dell monitor is blurry, the first area to check is the monitor menu. In the monitor menu, adjust the various elements of the display including "Contrast," "Sharpness," and "Brightness" to sharpen and adjust the picture to your liking.
