Grade School Valentine Party Ideas
Valentine's Day is one of the most anticipated days of the school year. Young children learn penmanship by addressing a valentine to each classmate. Children enjoy selecting the type of valentine they will send, selecting which valentine to give each person and opening their envelopes at the end of the day.

Gelatin Heart Snacks

Mix flavored red gelatin with half the amount of water the package requires, so that it is much firmer than usual when it sets up. Pour it into a shallow baking dish. Allow the children to cut out shapes with a small heart-shaped cookie cutter. If desired, use sugar-free gelatin. For a large class. make a second dish with pink gelatin.
Valentines for Mother

Provide small heart-shaped paper doilies, pink and red paper hearts and flower stickers. Allow the children to glue these things together to make valentines for their mothers. Provide preprinted greetings for younger children and allow older children to write their own messages.

Valentine Mailboxes

Glue oatmeal canisters to rectangles of cardboard so that the boxes are lying on their sides. The cardboard should be as wide as the box and as long as the box's height. Drape a sheet of construction paper over the rounded top of the box to imitate a mailbox. Fold the edges of the paper under the cardboard base and glue them down. Add a flag to the side of the mailbox.
Conversation Heart Bingo.

Make bingo cards with valentine symbols such as hearts, arrows, cupids and candy. Use the same symbols in red, pink and lavender to expand the number of pictures. Use conversation hearts as markers to play bingo. For older children who can read, use the messages on the hearts in the squares of the bingo card.
