Christmas Placemat Murals
-
Placemats are usually rectangular in shape and can range from pieces of plastic to regular thin pieces of paper. In the case of a children's Christmas mural craft, using paper is usually the best idea. Tell children to draw Christmas scenes on the paper placemat. Alternatively, children can paint, using watercolors or finger paints, or they might use Christmas stickers. Upon completing the project and allowing wet materials like paint to dry, get the placemats laminated to make them waterproof. Stick the placemats on a wall with tape or a similar easy-to-remove adhesive. The scenes on the placemats create a cute Christmas mural on the wall, but are easy to take off after the holidays.
Christmas Tree Mural
-
A Christmas tree mural starts with a piece of green paper cut into the shape of a Christmas tree. Children are given supplies, such as tinsel, stickers and crayons, and are asked to decorate the tree. The children decorate according to their personal preferences and abilities, changing the green paper into a Christmas tree. They can add presents under the tree and draw in a Santa or elves peeking through the branches as the children prefer.

Santa and Elves Mural
-
Santa is one of the symbols children associate with Christmas the most. They might not understand everything about Christmas, but they are told that Santa brings gifts for them at Christmas time. Creating a mural with Santa and his elves gets children excited about Christmas, and they enjoy the art project. Start with a large piece of paper for the background and then provide materials. Give everything from felt in Christmas colors, to glue, to crayons and colored pencils. Let the children draw Santa and his elves on the paper and use felt to make Santa's suit, Christmas trees and anything else they prefer.
Wall Mural
-
Wall murals are either paintings or stickers on the wall. Children enjoy painting, and parents can help design a wall mural for the holidays. Parents draw the outlines of the mural on the wall, and children with parental supervision can fill in the mural with paint. Parents might draw an outdoor snow scene with a snowman and Santa or a large Christmas tree. For less permanent murals, parents and children can add Christmas stickers to the wall instead. Parents with fewer artistic skills can use a projector to put the image on the wall or might use stencils instead of drawing by hand.
