Enjoy a romantic movie with your date.

A movie date at home is romantic, inexpensive and fun. Cuddling up on the couch with your significant other and watching a film is a favorite pastime and a popular option for date night. But what movie to watch? Sometimes the hardest part about movie date night is choosing the flick.

  1. The Classics

    • The American Film Institute named the 1942 classic "Casablanca" the most romantic movie of all time. The movie, starring Humphrey Bogart, is set in unoccupied Africa during the early days of World War II, where an American expatriate happens upon a former lover. "Annie Hall," a film directed by and starring Woody Allen, also made the AFI's list of passionate classical movies and is another great date-night classic movie.

    Romantic Comedy

    • Romantic comedies can be natural ice-breakers for you and your date. "Knocked Up," a 2007 movie starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, made the popular movie reviewing site Rotten Tomatoes' Best Romantic Comedies list. "Chasing Amy (1997), directed by Kevin Smith, also made Rotten Tomatoes' list. While a bit quirky, the film is "grappling with honest, human emotion."

    Romance

    • The best movies for a couch date are probably the romantic ones and may get you and your date more in touch with your sentimental sides. "Titanic" (1997) may be a little too sappy but this romance holds the title for Best Ranked Movie, according to Box Office Mojo, making for an incredibly romantic and fateful movie. Be prepared though---this movie is over three hours long.

    Horror

    • Not all movies need to have a happy ending to be a good pick for your movie date night. You and your date will be holding each other tight in no time after a few good horror movies. Try Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960), which is listed as the Internet Movie Database's Top-Rated Horror Titles. For something more recent to snuggle up to, watch the 2002 movie "The Ring" starring Naomi Watts. The creepy detective storyline will scare you both into each others arms.
