High School Homecoming Week Activities
Homecoming week and the homecoming game is the highlight of many students' time in high school. It also helps to build excitement for the coronation of the homecoming king and queen. There are many different traditions and activities that are unique to each high school and it can be a wonderful time for high school reunions.
-
Pep Rally
-
The pep rally is usually held on the day of the big homecoming game. All the students gather on the football field or in the gym to celebrate and get pumped up for a victory. Cheerleaders often perform routines, the team members are announced and skits can be put on by the members of the homecoming court. Many times alumni will attend this event as well.
Powder Puff Football
-
A highlight of homecoming week is often the powder puff football game. During this event, ladies, often the cheerleaders, will dress in football attire and play the game while the guys, often football team players, cheer them on. The guys can even be responsible for performing at half time. Tickets can be sold to the game to the student body to raise money for a charity or special event that the school is sponsoring.
-
Homecoming Parade
-
The homecoming parade can kick off homecoming week. Determine a theme for the parade or homecoming week and have each club and sports team make a float. You can showcase and introduce members of the homecoming court during the parade. Your band can play and march, as well. Invite family members of students and alumni, along with members of the community and booster club to participate in and watch the parade.
Spirit Week
-
Select a theme for each day of the week leading up to the homecoming game. Students will then dress up, according to the theme, each day. Offer a prize for the best dressed student each day and a grand prize for the best dressed student for the week. Use imagination and creativity to make this a truly fun event. This will not only get the students into the homecoming spirit, but will also foster a sense of unity and school spirit.
