MBA Accountant Salaries
MBA graduates often pursue accounting designations as a supplement to their education. This combination of credentials often leads to lucrative careers for people with experience and a good track record of financial management or bookkeeping. However, salaries can range depending on the level of responsibility and not all jobs pay well, even if the incumbent has an MBA.

National Average
-
People in accounting and auditing positions earned an average of $59,430 per year as of May 2008. Accountants and bookkeepers were among the highest paid workers in the field, at a national average of $61,480. Employees with advanced degrees such as an MBA can expect a slightly higher annual salary as they have the potential to move into a higher position such as a financial analyst.
State Differences
-
New York, New Jersey and other New England states have the highest annual salary for accounting positions. In New York, the average salary is $84,280, and in Massachusetts, people in accounting positions average $73,280. Both average salaries are well above the national average. The higher salaries may reflect the fact that the New York Stock Exchange is the financial hub of the United States; people with MBA degrees who are interested in finance in the U.S. may find more opportunity in the northeastern states.

Experience
-
Different levels of experience can have an effect on the salary of an accountant with an MBA. Junior accountants with MBAs are generally excluded from training requirements at the level of Public Accountant 1. However, even with an advanced degree, an MBA graduate in an entry level position like Public Accountant 1 is likely to be much lower than someone with many years of experience who has reached a more senior accounting position.
Types
-
There are also notable salary differences among MBA accounting careers by job type. For example, a staff accountant makes significantly less than a financial controller; the staff accountant usually earns a maximum of about $58,000, whereas a financial controller can earn over $100,000 per year. Other accountant jobs, such as a Senior Accountant, a Certified Public Accountant, or a Senior Financial Analyst, command salaries between $43,500 and over $88,000 for incumbents with an MBA.
