Indoor Child Games
Rainy days and freezing cold weather can be a hard time for parents who have kids in the house. Your child may attempt one of two extreme behaviors once cabin fever sets in. Some kids may try to spend the whole day being lazy and watching TV. Other children may become hyper from all the pent-up energy and begin jumping around, making a mess and interfering with your housework. Having indoor activities and games planned for rainy days can make your household run more effectively.

Crafts
-
Crafts are a fun indoor activity that will keep your children busy and allow them to express themselves. You can go the simple route by giving your kids blank paper and a variety of crayons, paint and colored pencils. Let them do freestyle drawing and see what they come up with. If you prefer a more organized activity, beading necklaces, doing paper mache and sculpting with clay are all good places to start. Keep a craft cabinet in your kid's playroom with supplies so you're prepared when an unexpected indoor day comes along. You can even let your children be fashion designers by providing plain T-shirts and puff paint. Buy smocks for your art closet to avoid messy accidents.
Board Games
-
Classic board games are another way to keep a group of children entertained. Long games such as Monopoly can occupy kids for hours. If your children are too young to play the original Monopoly game, purchase Monopoly Junior. Simple games such as Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders appeal to younger kids. Board games can even have educational value. Word games such as Boggle Jr. and Scrabble Jr. help your child's spelling and reading skills. Take a break from your busy schedule and play a game with your children, as it's a chance to bond.
Use Your Imagination
-
The sky is the limit when kids make up their own games. Kids love dress-up games where they can act out entire scenarios pretending to be princesses, teachers, parents and more. Playing school or acting out a fun scene from a favorite TV show can provide your little ones with hours of fun. Keep a chest of costumes in the house to encourage this behavior. You can also allow your children to make their own board games. Provide your children with flash cards, markers, chalk boards, magazines and more and see what kind of game they can create. Have them write a list of rules and then take turns having the group play each child's game.
Educational Fun
-
If you are entertaining a group of kids indoors, you can be the host of a game like the TV show, "Jeopardy." Split up the kids into two teams and ask the clues. Come up with topics appropriate for the grade level of the participating children. They will be studying without even knowing it. You can also turn almost any subject into a game by having a contest. Host a spelling bee in your living room or ask simple math questions. Give out small pieces of candy for every correct answer.
