Ribbon Ideas for Maternity Photography
Today, pregnant women are more comfortable in their own skin with many choosing to have a professional photo session in order to capture the baby as a pregnant bump. On booking a photo shoot the photographer will suggest incorporating a theme. In deciding to use ribbons for the maternity photograph, it would be natural to explore the concept of the baby as being a gift.

Baby as a Gift
-
The idea of exploring the baby as a gift provides numerous gift-wrapping possibilities with the use of ribbons and bows. You could wrap a wide satin ribbon around the stomach and tie it in a bow at the front of the pregnant bump. Alternatively, you could use curling ribbon to create a spiral effect or just decoratively place a large ribbon bow over the belly button. The selected colors could reflect the baby's gender, if known, or just be colors which suit the mother's mood or personality.
Playful Ribbons
-
Use ribbons playfully to both hide and reveal the gift of the pregnancy bump. To create this effect, customize a bra top with ribbons so that the ribbons hang below the bra like a grass skirt. Depending on how the mother is posing for the photograph, the ribbons will take on a life of their own as they either hang to conceal or to expose the bump. The unpredictable movement of the ribbons will help the photographer to take some great maternity photographs.

Unwrapping
-
Consider playing with the theme of opening the gift of the baby bump. The mother-to-be could wear a long or short night dress which is open at the front all the way up to the bosom of the night dress where there sits a large floppy bow. Use ribbons to fasten up the front of the night dress, ready to be teased open to reveal the stomach. This kind of garment is perfect for women who are reticent at first about exposing their full stomach.
Bursting Out Of The Gift Wrap Corset
-
Explore the idea of the baby belly bursting out of its gift wrap. The pregnant woman could wear an ill-fitting corset which is tied over the stomach with ribbons. Some of the ribbons could be worn loose or tangled up, and some corset fastenings should contain no ribbons in order to give the impression of the pregnant bump wanting to burst out of the corset gift wrap.
