Create your own version of this bright bird.

Crafting is a wonderful way to bond with your children. It allows them to explore their imagination and creativity with no restraint. Flamingo art crafts are not only enjoyable to create, they are also easy to make. You can create many different kinds of flamingos with different types of crafts.

  1. Feather Handprint Flamingos

    • This craft is simple to make and can be done by children of all ages. Have your child paint their hand with finger paint, and place it on a piece of colored construction paper. Trace their hand on the paper. When you reach the thumb, have them extend the length for a longer neck for the flamingo. While the paint dries, choose what type of eyes and feathers you want to glue on the bird, and make its feet out of straws. Cut out the outline of the bird, and glue the remaining pieces on the paper to finish.

    Heart-Shaped Flamingos

    • This is another simple and fun craft to create. Using pink pipe cleaners, pink construction paper and glue, you can create a posable and quirky flamingo. For this craft you will need to cut out two hearts from the construction paper and also two head shapes. Place two of the pipe cleaners inside the two hearts and glue together. You must also place another pipe cleaner at the upper part of the heart to secure the neck. Glue the two head pieces at the end of the neck and use a marker to draw the beak.

    Walnut Flamingo

    • You can even create a flamingo using a walnut shell as the body. For this craft you will need card stock or very thick paper. Trace the outline of the walnut shell and also the shape and silhouette of the flamingo. Cut out the outline of the bird. Take the stiff wire, bend it into a narrow V shape for the legs and feet and glue it to the card stock. Glue the walnut shell onto the paper. After the glue dries, paint your flamingo to finish it.

    Valentine Flamingo Mailbox

    • Using pink wrapping paper, a small box and some imagination, you and your child will be able to create a Valentine mailbox. Cut a hole that is large enough to fit Valentine cards in it. After you cut the hole, wrap the box in the wrapping paper. Using the template (see Resources), trace and cut out the flamingo head from pink construction paper. Reinforce it by threading pink pipe cleaners along the outline of the flamingo's head. This will ensure that the head will not flop over. Attach the head to the base of the box with tape, and color in the flamingo's beak and eyes. If you wish to add more flair to this box, drape pink crepe strips over the box or draw small red hearts on it.
