Florida day camps offer activities for children while they are out of school on break or for the summer. Since the climate in Florida is warm, outdoor camps can be held during the winter months as well. Swimming, sport games and arts and crafts are traditional camp activities and promote teamwork while unique camps offer hands on activities and interaction with zoo animals.

  1. Urban Adventures Sports Day Camp

    • The Urban Adventures Sports Day Camp is located in Lake Mary, Florida. The camp is coed offering activities for children ages 7 to 15 years old. Teamwork and respect are the main focus of this camp, encouraging children to work together during different sports activities. Outdoor activities include rope courses, hiking, archery, golf, tennis, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, football, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer. Arts and craft activities are also offered. All the activities promote leadership and team building skills. One week sessions are offered with 75 spots available. The cost for the camp is between $100 and $200 in 2011.

    Busch Gardens Adventure Camp

    • The Busch Gardens Adventure Camp is located in Tampa Bay, Florida. The day camp offers children from pre-school age through eighth grade days of activities and education with the variety of animals found within the park. Day camps include daily lunches, snacks, drinks, an adventure camp t-shirt, water bottle, photo with a Busch Garden ambassador and opportunities to play, ride and explore through out the park. Prices range based on the age group or level chosen. Student groups include investigation activities involving the various animals to being junior zookeepers, following a trained zookeeper for an entire day. Family day camps are also offered. Most camps are held each week during July and August.

    Camp Live Oak

    • Camp Live Oak has two locations; Fort Lauderdale and North Miami. The counselors include teachers, scientists, ecologists, water safety instructors and environmentalists. Traditional activities include swimming, fishing, archery, kayaking at the North Miami location, and surfing at the Fort Lauderdale site. Team building games and activities will allow children to work and play together. Education is in full swing with guided walking tours, bug catching and experiments. Summer day camps offer two 4-week sessions at both sites. Each week is a different theme which includes guest speakers, field trips and theme related activities. Rates vary and are discounted if you have more than one child attending and registration forms can be found on the camp website.

    Burrell's Camp Chippewa

    • Burrell's Camp Chippewa is located in Jacksonville, Florida. This 6-acre summer day camp offers activities like swimming, horseback riding, sports and camping adventures. A large open pavilion is available for crafts and group activities. There is a pond for fishing and canoeing as well as an in ground pool for swimming. Children are placed in groups based on their ages. A counselor is assigned to each group. Groups are given tribal names and each "tribe" has their own schedule through out each day. Meals are served on site and snacks are available for purchase. To register, fill out the contact form on the camp website or call the camp directly.
