Creative Wedding Decorating Ideas

Whether you have an unlimited wedding budget or need to pinch pennies, you can carry out your wedding decor in creative, thoughtful ways as you share this special day with wedding guests and family. Table Decor

Fill clear glass vases with candies matching your color scheme. Valentine hearts come in pastels, red, pink and white. Kisses come in emerald green, red, pink and gold. Place bunches of artificial roses, peonies or other large flowers in the tops. If you use real blooms, wait until just before the event to keep them fresh. Do not add water. For a beach or tropical theme, place mirrors on tables. Purchase large, clear champagne glasses from a variety store. Fill glasses with clear or lightly colored water. Add goldfish or beta fish. Set tea lights or small candles atop mirrors. Sprinkle sand on mirrors. Add mica chips or light glitter, shells, starfish, pearls and other adornments. Carry out the love-and-sand theme on side tables by placing love letters bearing the couple's names. Draw hearts and write their initials in the sand.

Ceilings

Wrap hula hoops in lightweight fabric, large ribbons or tulle to disguise the plastic. Wrap smaller ribbons and vines around the hoops. Tuck dried or artificial flowers in pastel colors into the ribbons. Roses, carnations and daisies work well. Secure flowers with rubber bands. Tie three lengths of fishing line or ribbon onto the hoops at an equal distance around the circumference. Tie all three lengths together so that the hoop hangs parallel to the floor. Suspend from a light fixture or small hook in the ceiling to create a hoop similar to those worn on old-fashioned flower girl headpieces. Adjust as necessary. Add additional ribbons tied with love knots. Hang these hoops near the altar, in the vestibule and throughout the venue. Decorate the hoops in a fashion similar to those worn by flower girls or junior bridesmaids.

Food as Decoration

Treat wedding guests to a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds with a candy buffet. Arrange candy containers at varying heights and fill them with assorted candies that tie in with your theme. Set cookies, candy pieces, nuts and fruits inside small nut cups and paper muffin liners. Add candy almonds and candy-coated chocolates in your wedding colors. Dip inexpensive Danish wedding cookies and assorted shortbread cookies into chocolate or drizzle melted chocolate over wafers and small cakes. Cover boxes with decorative papers. Tie bows and colored tulle around boxes. Use telephone books to raise boxes beneath tablecloths. Place a white lace tablecloth over a solid-colored one such as aqua. Include bowls or oranges, tangerines, apples or other fruit to complement the decor.
