Business Etiquette on a Cell
Cellphones have become a standard feature of society, carried almost everywhere by people of all ages. Many businesspeople use cellphones extensively, as an extension of their daily business routines. This means almost any businessperson you encounter is likely to have a cellphone at his disposal, armed and ready for use. Practicing proper cellphone business etiquette keeps the phone from becoming a nuisance.

Professional Ring Tones
-
While many people enjoy choosing a favorite rock song or joke ring tones for their cellphones, this should be avoided on a phone used for business. A ring tone you find entertaining might give the wrong impression to those you do business with. If your cellphone is a business phone, keep the ring tone subtle and professional.
Informing Callers of Cellphone
-
Always inform your callers that you are on a cellphone. Since cellphone call quality is dependent upon a signal that can be dropped at anytime, informing the person you're on the line with will let him know your signal might be lost. If the signal is lost, your caller will likely be understanding and either wait for you to call back or make the call himself.

Poor Signal Calls
-
If you have a poor signal while you're doing business on your phone, offer to call your party back. Inform her that you will find somewhere that you can get a better signal and return the call. This is not only polite, it might save you from getting an unclear message across to your party or not getting your information through at all.
Business Meetings
-
Always turn your phone off when you're speaking at a meeting when possible. If you are expecting a call that is urgent and you need to know about it, put your phone on vibrate. Your cellphone should never ring during a meeting. If you get a call during a meeting, finish your meeting before you respond to the phone call whenever possible. If you must take the call, apologize to your audience and get someone to take over for you. Leave the meeting room to take your call. If you are attending a meeting you can't leave and need to communicate by phone, text rather than call, and keep even the texting to a minimum.
