Miami, Florida GED Test Requirements
The General Educational Development (GED) test is administered world-wide by the American Council on Education, and is widely regarded as the approximate equivalent of a high school diploma. The test cannot be taken online, but the Florida Department of Education maintains a number of testing locations throughout the Miami area, principally in Miami-Dade County public school locations.

Eligibility
-
The State of Florida requires GED test-takers to be at least 18 and a Florida resident. Students who are 16 or 17 may apply to the GED Chief Examiner of Miami-Dade County for permission to take the GED early. This application will only be considered if students are legally withdrawn from a conventional high school, and if they meet a minimum score on the Official Practice Test administered by the GED Chief Examiner.
Test Content
-
The GED consists of seven sections in five subject areas: language arts (reading), language arts (writing), social studies, science and mathematics. Florida does not require GED test-takers to complete any additional courses such as American Government before receiving a State of Florida High School Diploma.
-
Passing Scores
-
GED test-takers must receive scores of at least 410 in each of the five subject areas, and an overall score of at least 2250, to pass and receive a State of Florida High School Diploma. Students are given three opportunities to retest on any subject area over the following year.
Accommodations
-
Test-takers may apply for accommodations for a number of physical and learning disabilities, including tests administered in Braille and extended time on tests. Some accommodations for non-native English speakers are also available in Miami.
