Texas Economic Development Grants
The state of Texas provides grant funding to support the economic development of businesses, community development initiatives and local infrastructure in rural communities. These grants are available to local governments, public institutions, and private and nonprofit organizations. Eligibility is based on population, demonstrated community need and project viability. Grant applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Community Development Block Grants

The Texas Office of Rural and Community Affairs provides community development block grant funding to qualifying municipalities with populations of less than 50,000 or counties with populations of less than 100,000. Grant recipients can use the funding for community development initiatives that provide affordable housing to low-income people, or otherwise increase economic development opportunities in rural communities.The amount of funding and grant deadlines vary by municipality or county.
Economic Development Assistance

The Economic Development Assistance Grant provides funding to governments, academic institutions, and nonprofit and private organizations for economic development projects. Recipients receive a maximum of 50 percent of project costs to address identified needs when a community has lost a major industry or been subject to a natural disaster or a downturn in the economy. Grant recipients can use the funding to analyze the regional economy, develop an action plan and set goals and objectives for economic development.

Public Works and Economic Development Facilities Program

The Public Works and Economic Development Facilities Program provides infrastructure grant funding to municipalities, academic institutions, and private and nonprofit organizations. Eligible projects include the rehabilitation or building of public facilities that support employment and investment in the private sector, promote a competitive business environment, improve technology, increase opportunities for the start-up of new businesses, or increase regional abilities to take advantage of free-trade opportunities.
Rural Business Enterprise Grants

Rural Business Enterprise Grants provide rural governments with funding to increase opportunities for adult education and distance learning. Grant eligibility is based on rural population, regional unemployment and income levels, evidence of community need, and project viability. Grant amounts depend on the scope of the project and available funding.
