The Powermatic 30B combination belt/disc sander came on the market in 1978. At that time, Houdaille Industries owned the Tennessee-based Powermatic Machine Co., which manufactured the 30B sander. The 30B is an unusual machine in that it offers belt-sanding capabilities, wherein a pair of drums turn a continuous belt of sandpaper; as well as disc-sanding capabilities, wherein a disc spins a mounted, circular section of sandpaper.
