There are many agencies and groups across the country that are willing to provide support and advice to current and prospective foster parents. Here, information concerning a broad group of issues that foster parents may encounter are discussed. Advice and inspiration are offered readily within these foster parent support groups as well.

The Foster Care & Adoptive Community

The Foster Care & Adoptive Community is an online forum where foster parents can gather to learn, chat, discuss and find support from each other. Articles, chat rooms, online training, message boards and discussion groups are available to offer advice about a broad range of topics and general support to foster parents and other family members. Such topics as attachment disorders, ADHD, adoption issues, and allegations of abuse or neglect are commonly discussed between members of this support group.
The National Foster Parent Association

The National Foster Parent Association (NFPA) is a comprehensive source of communication between foster parents, agencies, associations and foster child advocates. Founded in 1972, the NFPA has grown from its original 926 foster parents, 210 social workers and 59 other professionals to an organization that represents thousands of foster families across the United States. On this site, foster parents may easily come in contact with helpful information and support groups that are found within their individual home state. The NFPA's headquarters are based out of Tacoma, Washington.

The National Foster Parent Coalition for Allegation Reform is an organization that tackles issues of child abuse and neglect allegations that are brought against foster and adoptive families across the United States. The support groups on this site are available by individual state. This allows others with similar allegations of abuse toward a foster child to share their own experiences and give advice based on the laws of your specific location.
The Mockingbird Society

The Mockingbird Society is a nonprofit, donation-based group dedicated to improving the present and future for children in the foster home system of Washington State. Specifically, this support group has set out to reform public policy and legislation, create a new model of foster care, give support to current caregivers and involve the children of the foster care system and their foster parents in advocating for national foster program improvements. Foster families across the state of Washington are able to turn to the Mockingbird Society for a large collection of helpful information on a variety of topics.
