Kindergarten Weather Activities
Weather can be part of the daily curriculum in kindergarten. It's important for pupils to discuss the current weather conditions and how to dress for them and to achieve an understanding of weather in general. Toward this end, pupils can participate in fun activities that teach them basic weather information.
-
Dressing for the Weather
-
Have pupils draw pictures of themselves dressing for a specific type of weather. Give each pupil two pieces of paper. Instruct them to draw a picture of themselves in sunny weather. On the back of that page, have them draw themselves in snowy weather. One the second sheet of paper, ask pupils to draw themselves in rainy weather. Talk with your class about what to wear for each type of weather condition and season.
Weather Window
-
Create a "weather window" for kindergarten students to decorate daily according to the current weather conditions. Put white paper over a bulletin board and divide it into four parts with brown lines to make it look like a large window. You can add fake curtains with construction paper to dress it up. Draw the branches of a tree in your window. Have various objects made out of laminated construction paper to represent the weather. These include a raindrop, sun, clouds and a snowflake. Have the pupils take turns placing the appropriate weather symbol on the window each day.

Rainbow Snack
-
Teach pupils about the colors of the rainbow by making a colorful snack. Mix together healthy fruits such as red strawberries, oranges, yellow pineapple, blueberries, green apples and purple grapes. Talk to your pupils about how a rainbow is formed after it rains.
What's the Weather Like?
-
Let pupils answer the question "What's the weather like?" by putting the appropriate words and picture onto a bulletin board. Ask students what the weather is like and have them select the right answer from sentences written on laminated card stock. The options should read "It is hot," "It is cold," "It is snowing," "It is windy," "It is cloudy" and "It is raining." After pupils select the correct sentence and put it on the bulletin board, have them pick the picture that matches the type of weather. You should have photos of sun, snow, wind, clouds and rain. Display the picture on the bulletin board as well.
