Suggestions for Healthy Snacks for Men

Suggestions for Healthy Snacks for Men thumbnail
Healthy snacks like bananas can help keep you satisfied between meals.

According to the Medical News Today website, men are more prone to heart disease than women. This means men should eat more heart-healthy snacks based on foods rich in fiber, folic acid and vitamins B12, E and C. Snacking on these types of food throughout the day can help prevent heart disease and control hunger. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Fruit and Vegetables

    • Many fruits and vegetables such as bananas, oranges, peaches, broccoli and spinach contain the fiber, folic acid and vitamins men need. Dip raw vegetables in a low-fat salad dressing, humus or add them to a healthy salad. Fiber-rich foods also take longer to digest and expand in your stomach, which will make you feel fuller for a longer amount of time. This will discourage you from eating too much or binging on salty junk food.

    Nuts and Seeds

    • Nuts and seeds are high in protein and rich in the unsaturated fat that helps ward off heart disease. Some seeds like sunflower seeds are also rich in vitamin E. Choose unsalted nuts and seeds and avoid products made with hydrogenated oils. The only drawback is eating too much at one time will defeat the purpose. Take no more than a handful of nuts and seed at a time, and then put the package away.

    Yogurt and Cottage Cheese

    • Cottage cheese and yogurt are high in protein, yet low in fat. They can be mixed with other healthy snack foods such as fruit and nuts. Cottage cheese is also low in cholesterol and rich in vitamin B12. Yogurt is sweet and creamy and is made from milk fermented with natural bacteria. It also helps improve your digestion.

    Sandwiches

    • A peanut butter sandwich with jelly or honey is a solid snack choice. Even though peanut butter contains saturated fat, it's not as much as the unsaturated fat, much like olive oil. Peanut butter also contains fiber and minerals like potassium. Tuna sandwiches are high in protein and low in fat, and tuna is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which can lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
