Teen Xmas Gifts
It's necessary to know the positive and negative aspects of your teen's various interests and to balance them out with gifts that may nudge them in the right direction. More-active kids are generally healthier and happier. Most gifts on the teen's gift list are probably electronic games or an updated cell phone. A hot-air-balloon ride would not only be an out-of-the-ordinary gift but also one that kindles a new interest.

Experiences to Remember
-
It is difficult to find a gift for most teens that does not simply involve an upgrade to one they already have. Gifts for teens seem to be built primarily around electronics; the newest cell phone or an expensive video game. An alternative gift for teens that will get them off of the couch and spark an interest for them in more active pursuits could be a skateboarding clinic, a series of snowboarding classes or a deep-sea fishing trip. Some of these classes may be expensive but would certainly pay long-term benefits if the teen chose one as an active pursuit.
Wireless Reading Device
-
Encourage your teen to read more by giving him a wireless reading device and offering to pay for books that both he and you agree upon. Include with the reading device a subscription to an acceptable blog.

Cell Phone
-
If your "tween" is just now becoming a teen, now is the time to make certain she has a cell phone. The temptation is to get the newest generation of phone and service. This will prove to be a distraction for the child more than a benefit. The two primary reasons for a cell phone at this age are being able to communicate whenever you need them and to provide security as their range of activities increase and they are away from home more.
Fun Gift
-
If the teen has a big interest in new movie or game release, such as a Call of Duty: Black Ops Jacket, a popular Xbox 360 game, or something similar, this is a good opportunity to give it as a present.
